Thankfully this is NOT a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (yet...). As you can see from Ayden's shirt, we are still very much in the Superhero phase.
Lately, [and I can thank Ayden's school for this] Ayden has been asking about when he can get another pet. For those who don't know. Our little toy poodle was taken from the yard almost a year ago by a dessert animal -- probably a bobcat. Ayden speaks of her frequently.
While Erowyn's fate was very sad and sudden, there is no denying how liberating it has been to have no pets around this past year. No extra dirt, hair, noise, smell, messes, mouths to feed, things to worry about when traveling....it's amazing. And trust me...my boys provide plenty of all of the above and more to go around.....
Admittedly, I thought I had a few good years before Ayden became any the wiser about it and started the pleading for a pet. Well, it has begun.
Thankfully, in true three-year-old fashion, it has already lessened significantly, so I think I can still hold off for a while. But, what I have compromised to is that if/when we break down and allow the kids to have a pet, it will for sure be a dessert tortoise.
Below, Mimi had some at her office that they were caring for and the boys had a BLAST holding them and feeding them. From the little I know, when they grow too big for the cage we can simply let them live in our yard....that sounds fairly low maintenance.....and certainly very quiet :) (but I'm sure there is a catch).
Ayden is just such a big boy these days. Something about this picture catches me off guard with how much he has grown and the wisdom in his face.
Gavin....well this might just be another glimpse into his mischievous future :)
